The Supermarine Spitfire became a legend during the long summer of 1940 when, along with the Hawker Hurricane, it became instrumental in repelling the Luftwaffe and forcing Germany to cancel its planned invasion. The lineage of the great British fighter aircraft has continued through such types as the Hawker Hunter, English Electric Lightning, Hawker Harrier, Panavia Tornado and SEPECAT Jaguar. The Eurofighter Typhoon is the latest in a fine history of aircraft that will defend Britain’s skies. In Michael Rondot’s tribute to our fighter aircraft heritage, Battle of Britain Spitfire Mk 1a, P7350 from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, flies in tight formation with the first production Eurofighter Typhoon single seater F2.
